Transient 401030 polymer battery have been successfully developed and can automatically decompose when exposed to water
Usually, electronic devices are designed and produced to achieve longer battery life, but there are naturally exceptions, such as the "transient electronics" to be introduced in this article. The original intention of the design was to be environmentally friendly, and the degradation was activated under environmental triggers such as temperature, light or moisture. Now scientists from Iowa State University have designed a battery for such devices that will decompose when immersed in water. So in what situations are these designs needed? For example, environmental sensors that do not need to be recycled, temporary medical deployment equipment that cannot be moved, or biodegradation after discarded consumer products. If these devices contain 401030 polymer battery, they will harm the environment, which is also the purpose of scientists developing this battery.
The research team led by Professor RezaMontazami created a 2.5V lithium battery that can drive a desktop calculator for about 15 minutes, and it will completely decompose after being immersed in water for about half an hour. According to RezaMontazami, "This is the first practical transient battery that not only provides battery supply but also has stable and environmentally friendly characteristics."
