Why do you want to bring button battery cr2032 technology home?

Last year, SolarEdge announced the acquisition of Korean button battery cr2032 manufacturer Kokam. Recently, Lior Handelsman, founder and vice president of SolarEdge, talked about its acquisition plans and strategic plans in an interview with foreign media. Exclusive interview with Lior Handelsman: Bringing button battery cr2032 technology home What is the idea behind your acquisition of Kokam? It is obvious that solar systems are increasingly integrated with energy storage. As the world's energy and power grids move towards distributed generation, more energy storage systems will be included. This is the new future. Just look at solar energy: more than 30% of solar systems are expected to be energy storage coupled. In such a technological environment, the role of inverters is to develop energy managers for buildings and homes. We want to learn more about energy storage and diversify our products to provide not only solar inverters but also batteries. This is an important diversification for our business - especially in a world where inverter profits are squeezed and we want to occupy a larger share of the world's energy system. In a more direct sense, we want to be able to obtain batteries - because the inability to obtain batteries limits our ability to provide solar plus button battery cr2032 systems to customers. What attracts you to Kokam? There are not many high-quality companies that produce batteries. We are looking for a company that is first class in terms of quality and capabilities, and we think it has advanced technology, and Kokam is a combination of these things. It is not only a button battery cr2032 company, but also a button battery cr2032 technology company. Its button battery cr2032 technology is also diversified, it not only provides batteries for stationary energy storage, but also for the specialty aerospace and electric vehicle markets, which is a high-quality button battery cr2032 with high-end technology. We also find Kokam unique in that the cobalt content in the button battery cr2032 is relatively low compared to other technologies on the market, which allows for better cost control. We see huge cell and module capacity in China. But this market will be more competitive, right? That's right. Everyone is trying to increase production capacity, and very similar to other such markets, prices are expected to fall. I'm not sure we are approaching the tipping point of oversupply - but there is such a risk in the future in the medium term. Having said that, demand is expected to grow significantly, and just like before, high-quality solutions rather than just very cheap low-end solutions will gain a real market. So we think this diversification makes sense and we believe we can provide many energy storage solutions to customers. What is Kokam's production capacity in batteries? It is relatively low now, less than 1kWh per year. But in order to meet demand, plans are being made to increase capacity. Kokam is already a clear and significant player in the utility-scale energy storage space, and we don't serve without Kokam today. But Kokam also has customers in automotive, specialty aerospace, and other energy storage verticals. So we plan to increase capacity to well above 1kWh. How long will it be before we see SolarEdge energy storage products with Kokam batteries? I'm not sure yet. We are working on a plan, and there are a lot of variables: one is button battery cr2032 supply, and another is market strategy - we are not abandoning our current button battery cr2032 partners. We will continue to integrate and work with them. The plan is not finalized yet, and there are a lot of different parameters to weigh: capacity, timeline, R&D, market availability, compatibility - so the plan is not yet determined. What are the advantages of having an integrated system for customers? We think that in the short term, the first obvious advantage is the use of batteries. There is still a shortage of batteries in the market today, just because of capacity and location issues. So we can enter the button battery cr2032 industry and this will be reflected in different solutions. Second, Kokam batteries have unique value in terms of portability, number of cycles, and high quality, and we will be able to transform that into a superior product. Have you heard about energy storage customers waiting a long time for batteries (there are reports of long wait times for Powerwall customers). Is this a problem? From the rumors I've heard about Powerwall in the market, we're still a long way from that goal. But on the other hand, I wouldn't say we can serve all the markets we want to serve. Once we say a storage product is available in a particular market, we'll do everything with our partners to make it fully available in that market. There is an indication that some markets want energy storage systems, and we haven't released the product yet - because we feel there may not be button battery cr2032 availability, and we're trying to address that. But this is far from some of the rumors about Powerwall. In recent years, many new energy companies, especially photovoltaic companies, have begun to get involved in energy storage batteries. The main reason is the reduction in button battery cr2032 costs and the support of national policies, and the benefits of button battery cr2032 storage in actual applications are also considerable. In order to achieve technological breakthroughs and occupy market share, acquiring energy storage companies with high technical levels should be one of the choices for many new energy companies.
