Fuel-powered 14250 battery technology will become the main energy processing method

As an alternative powertrain energy source, hydrogen fuel-powered lithium batteries have not yet been widely commercialized. The fundamental reason is that the technology cost is high and the infrastructure construction needs to be improved. However, given the increasingly severe environmental problems and the unbroken technical limitations, I still believe that we should continue to work towards the direction of using hydrogen fuel-powered lithium batteries as a necessary supplementary energy source for pure electric vehicles.

Independent electrolysis stations can be financed through private equity funds, allowing this efficient infrastructure construction to be quickly rolled out. In fact, H2-Mobility, a joint venture jointly established by several Japanese auto giants, plans to build 80 hydrogen refueling stations by March 2022. Some countries, such as Japan, South Korea and Germany, and even some regions, such as California in the United States, have taken the lead in taking action and actively deploying, planning to build more than 1,000 hydrogen refueling stations in the next five years.

In terms of "green" electricity, hydrogen energy is the most efficient energy storage method: it can store electricity generated by non-continuous renewable energy sources (such as solar or wind energy). For example, 70m2 of solar panels can generate enough hydrogen to power a vehicle for 20,000 km. Compared to conventional batteries, fewer key materials are needed to manufacture fuel cell batteries, and hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, so there is no need for any recycling.

Fuel cell technology is an attractive alternative in this area. Fuel cell electric vehicles have a range and refueling time comparable to gasoline vehicles, but with zero emissions. Fuel cell technology is particularly promising in trucks and commercial vehicles, which will inevitably accelerate the development of this technology. Companies such as Pepsi and DHL already use fuel cell vehicles in their distribution business, and I believe this will become the new industry standard, especially for cities with severe air pollution caused by terminal distribution. By 2030, it is expected that at least 2 million new cars and more than 350,000 new trucks will be equipped with fuel cell technology.

In view of this, Faurecia has decided to invest 15 million euros per year in fuel cell research and development to fully stimulate the potential of this technology in the automotive industry. Over the past year, we have worked together with R&D and technical experts to help the company overcome various technical challenges and tailor high-performance systems for three key components that account for 80% of the value of this technology: high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks in cooperation with Stelia Aerospace Composites; pressure valves that improve hydrogen storage efficiency with French startup Ad-Venta; and high-performance fuel cell stacks with the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA). This is another example of Faurecia's open innovation and a real competitive advantage.

As fuel cell technology matures and the refueling infrastructure develops, Faurecia's ultimate goal is to cut the cost of fuel cell stacks in half, making them an attractive solution for vehicle manufacturers and ultimately making fuel cells a must-have for electric vehicles. We believe that the attention paid to fuel cell technology by all stakeholders will enable us to industrialize fuel cell batteries and strive to make them a clean and efficient source of automotive power.

Hydrogen will become a key part of the future energy system because hydrogen comes from a wide range of sources, helping to diversify national energy supplies and integrate renewable energy. In addition, hydrogen is easy to store and can achieve true zero carbon dioxide emissions.

In summary, in the next decade, fuel cell lithium battery technology will become an important energy solution, especially in the field of automotive hybrid powertrains. To achieve its large-scale use in the automotive industry, short-term technological improvements and breakthroughs in cost reduction are the only way.
