Power Nickel Hydride Batteries recycling ushered in a turning point, and recycling technology was gradually improved.

From April 17 to 18, the 7th Automotive Power Battery Recycling and Regeneration and Secondary Battery Recycling and Regeneration Technology Seminar was held in Beijing.

Key Problems in Power Battery Recycling

Huang Jianzhong, former deputy inspector of the Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and secretary-general of the China Electronic Energy Conservation Technology Association, said: The current power battery recycling industry is entering an important stage of tackling key problems. It is manifested in the following three key points.

First, whether it is the design and production of power batteries or the recycling, disposal and comprehensive utilization of waste power batteries, they are still in a stage of continuous improvement of policies and regulations to support and regulate development.

Second, how can battery manufacturing companies adopt standardized, universal and easy-to-disassemble product structure design to strengthen the full life cycle management of power batteries.

Third, how to establish various systems of extended producer responsibility with automobile manufacturers as the main body, give play to the role of market mechanisms, and establish power battery recycling channels.

These three key points pointed out the main problems in my country's recycling and treatment of waste batteries.

In terms of the power battery recycling policy system, at present, the design and production of power batteries in my country, the recycling and disposal of waste power batteries, and comprehensive utilization are still in a stage of continuous improvement of policies and regulations to support and regulate development. At the previous "two sessions", Chen Hong, a deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of Shanghai Automotive Group, said that at this stage, my country's power battery recycling policy system is not sound enough. It is difficult for vehicle manufacturers to manage the power batteries of all sold vehicles from the sale of new cars to the final recycling. Therefore, he suggested that "relevant departments should study and introduce the recycling qualifications of new energy vehicles, and gradually eliminate enterprises with backward technology and substandard environmental protection." In terms of the full life cycle management of power batteries and the extension of producer responsibility, Wang Hongmei of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences is more experienced. She has presided over the formulation of relevant policies on "waste battery pollution prevention and control technology" of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. She pointed out that the management of waste lead-acid batteries is currently mainly concentrated on industrial hazardous wastes, and the management of hazardous wastes of civilian products is still relatively weak. Therefore, she suggested: "In general, a unified coding standard should be established at the national level, a traceability system for the entire life cycle should be established, the entire flow should be supervised, and finally a closed-loop cycle between production, recycling and regeneration should be created, pollution responsibility should be truly extended to consumers, and a new model of civilian hazardous waste management should be established."

The blue ocean of the battery recycling market is waiting for the recycling industry chain to be improved to break the ice

From the perspective of the battery's service life, the first batch of electric vehicles has a mileage of more than 200,000 kilometers, which meets the requirements of retired batteries, and some power batteries have begun to enter the scrap period. The arrival of the scrap period also brings huge market opportunities to the battery recycling industry. It is understood that the waste power battery recycling market will explode from 2018. It is expected that the waste power battery recycling market will exceed 5 billion yuan in 2018. From 2020 to 2023, the scale of the waste power battery recycling market will further increase to 13.6 billion to 31.1 billion yuan.

In order to strengthen the recycling of waste batteries, at the end of February this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other seven ministries and commissions jointly formulated the "Interim Measures for the Management of Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles". Faced with the blue ocean of the market, Nickel Hydride Batteries-related companies also seized the opportunity and began to layout power battery recycling.

Guoxuan High-tech, a listed company in the power battery industry, has previously stated that it has established a company for comprehensive battery recycling and is currently building a recycling production line.

In addition, power battery company CATL is also exploring a complete green industry chain for lithium batteries. Previously, an insider of CATL said that after the power battery is retired from the car, it will be placed in its battery energy storage system for cascade utilization. After the cascade utilization, the battery will be disassembled and the battery materials will be recycled.

2018 is the first year of the development of the power battery recycling industry. In this regard, Wang Chao, Secretary-General of the China Battery Alliance, believes that the rapid development of the power battery recycling industry meets the expectations of all parties in the new energy vehicle industry, but the industry trend should be re-examined from two perspectives. One is that the power battery has reached the retirement age and the market demand is gradually expanding; the other is that policies such as "power batteries will face retirement when the capacity decays to 80%", forcing power battery companies to layout and improve the recycling system, driving the industry to move forward rapidly.

Although some new energy vehicle companies have already laid out the power battery recycling market, due to insufficient technology and experience, many companies choose to hand it over to third-party professional power battery recycling parties. The blue ocean of battery recycling has taken shape, and only the maturity of recycling technology is needed to break the ice.
