      It is worth noting that in order to cope with the fierce competition in power batteries, BYD, the former king of power batteries, has changed its power battery production from self-use to opening up to the outside world. At present, BYD's batteries have begun to prepare for installation in other car companies. BYD's relevant staff told the reporter of "Daily Economic News" that in the future, it will not only sell 402030 polymer battery iron phosphate batteries to the outside world, but also ternary 402030 polymer battery batteries will be supplied to the outside world.

      Some manufacturers dropped out of the top 20 rankings

      According to Zhenli Research data, in March this year, a total of 57 automakers in the country achieved an installed capacity of 2.19GWh.

      From the perspective of 402030 polymer battery battery installed capacity of battery suppliers, CATL ranked first with an installed capacity of 1.1GWh, accounting for 50.33%, while its installed capacity in March last year was only 258.48MWh, an increase of more than 3 times year-on-year. BYD, which ranked second, had an installed capacity of 411.90MWh, accounting for 18.83%; Guoxuan High-tech (18.520, 0.52, 2.89%) ranked third with 193.64MWh, accounting for 8.85% of the market share.

      From the perspective of the types of batteries supplied by battery manufacturers, NCM (nickel cobalt manganese) ternary batteries occupy a major position, followed by 402030 polymer battery iron phosphate batteries. Among the top 20 battery suppliers with 402030 polymer battery battery installed capacity in March, 17 supplied NCM ternary batteries, 8 supplied 402030 polymer battery iron phosphate batteries, 1 supplied 402030 polymer battery manganese oxide batteries, and no manufacturer supplied 402030 polymer battery titanate batteries. Last year, the main supplier of 402030 polymer battery titanate was Zhuhai Yinlong, which was invested by Dong Mingzhu.

      The supply of 402030 polymer battery iron phosphate batteries is mainly concentrated in CATL and Guoxuan High-tech, which together account for nearly 90% of the total installed capacity of 402030 polymer battery iron phosphate batteries. The total installed capacity of NCM ternary batteries is mainly provided by CATL and BYD, and the two companies together account for more than 70%. The installed capacity of 402030 polymer battery manganese oxide batteries is relatively small, and the main supplier is Microvast Power, which achieved an installed capacity of 8.68MWh in March, accounting for 80% of the total installed capacity of 402030 polymer battery manganese oxide batteries.

      Zhang Hui, an analyst at Zhenli Research, believes that after the Spring Festival in March, all companies have resumed normal production, and the installed capacity has increased significantly compared with February. In addition, the implementation of the national subsidy policy has also given companies a reassurance, and the installed capacity of 402030 polymer battery batteries has grown benignly.

      It is worth noting that the concentration of the power battery industry is getting higher and higher. In the first quarter, the installed capacity of new energy vehicles was 4.54GWh, a year-on-year increase of 182.67%. The top three companies have occupied more than 70% of the market share. In the same period last year, the top three companies accounted for just over half.

      Since last year, competition among power battery companies has intensified, and the ranking of the top 20 companies in terms of installed capacity has also changed significantly, with some companies even falling out of the rankings. Last year, the installed capacity of Wattma, a holding company of Jianrui Woneng (4.210, 0.20, 4.99%), ranked third, but in March this year it had disappeared from the top 20 companies.

      "Two-end squeeze" becomes a monopoly

      Mo Ke, chief analyst of Zhenli Research, believes that this year's market characteristics are a monopoly and intensified reshuffles. He said that the significant feature last year was "two-end squeeze" - CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd.) market share increased rapidly, and the market share of companies outside the top 20 also increased overall, while the market share of companies ranked 2 to 19 decreased. The top 20 battery manufacturers have a total installed capacity market share of 86.02%.

      However, in the first quarter of this year, the market share of the top five power battery companies has exceeded 80%, and the market share of the top 20 companies has exceeded 97%. Last year, the market share of other battery manufacturers outside the top 20 reached 13.98%, and in the first quarter of this year, they only shared less than 3% of the market share.

      The most obvious thing is that the continuous growth of CATL's market share has squeezed other companies. Take BYD as an example. Although its battery business was earlier than CATL, its closed-loop supply model allowed the latter to quickly occupy the market and was surpassed by CATL in 2017.

      CATL lowered the price of power batteries to seize the market last year, causing the average sales price of its power battery system to drop by 30% year-on-year, the largest decline in the past three years. CATL believed at that time that the decline in the average sales price was mainly due to the rapid increase in power battery production capacity in recent years and the adjustment of new energy vehicle subsidy policies.

      In response to this fierce market competition, BYD's closed-loop power battery supply chain system has been gradually opened, and BYD has given a timetable for the independent listing of power batteries for the first time. On March 31, Shen Xi, deputy general manager of BYD's 402030 polymer battery battery business unit, said at the 2018 Pearl River Delta Future Automotive Supply Chain Innovation Forum that BYD is working on the divestiture of its power battery business, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2018 or early 2019. In 2022~2023, BYD's power battery company will be listed independently.

      Moreover, BYD's power battery export business has already started. According to the announcement of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on April 13, a pure electric van and a pure electric truck chassis of Dongfeng Motor (4.520,0.06,1.35%) are equipped with 402030 polymer battery iron phosphate batteries produced by BYD. Among Dongfeng Motor's 15 pure electric vans and 19 pure electric truck chassis, one is provided with batteries by BYD.

      BYD's relevant staff told the reporter of "Daily Economic News" that in the future, not only 402030 polymer battery iron phosphate batteries will be sold to foreign countries, but also ternary 402030 polymer battery batteries will be supplied to foreign countries. However, the staff member said that the specific progress of BYD's foreign cooperation is still unclear.
