South Korea has developed a new electrode material that allows CR2477 battery to be charged for 5 hours of talk time in 6 minutes!
A research team from Pohang University of Science and Technology has developed a new electrode material. With this material, lithium-ion batteries can be charged to 75% in 6 minutes.
The research team was led by Lee Jin-woo, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Pohang University of Science and Technology said in a statement that this electrode material can be used in lithium-ion batteries, and the researchers have found a simpler way to synthesize hierarchical porous inorganic materials.
The pores on the material are divided into small pores, and these small pores are divided into three types: small pores (below 2 nanometers), mesopores (2-50 nanometers), and macropores (more than 50 nanometers). The hierarchical porous structure contains at least two of the three types of pores.
This material is particularly suitable for use in batteries because it has a relatively wide surface area and is very effective at transporting chemicals. The problem is that mass production is a bit difficult because the procedure is complicated and requires adjusting various holes at the same time.
The research team controlled the evaporation conditions of the solvent to generate block copolymers and complete phase separation at the same time, thus synthesizing porous inorganic materials.
In addition to titanium niobium oxide, we can also apply this technology to a variety of inorganic materials, such as tungsten and titanium dioxide. The research team found a way to increase the permeability of the electrolyte in the electrode, so that it would be easier to transport lithium ions. Charging is faster because the oxidation and reduction surface areas are wider.
