The nickel cobalt manganese ternary material is currently widely used as a positive electrode material for power batteries, combining the performance characteristics of LiCoO2, LiNiO2, and LiMnO2. In comparison, it has advantages such as high discharge capacity, low production cost, stable layered structure, good cycling rate performance, and thermal stability.
However, ternary materials have certain hidden dangers in practical applications, which are related to the presence of moisture in battery assembly. Compared to other positive electrode materials, ternary materials, especially high nickel ternary materials with higher capacity, are more afraid of water. To use ternary materials well, they must be modified, mainly focusing on several key points:
① Improve the structural stability of the material itself;
② Improve the interface between electrodes and electrolytes;
③ Improve performance such as capacity/rate/cycling/safety based on usage needs.
