How to choose an energy storage battery and what precautions should be taken when using it?

      1. How to choose high-quality energy storage batteries

      1. Check the appearance and packaging

The quality of a battery can first be judged by its appearance and packaging. A product that cannot even detail the packaging is definitely not a professional product. Appearance can help us filter out some inferior products.

      2. Compare weight

The weight and capacity of energy storage batteries are directly proportional. If they are polymer energy storage batteries, if the weight difference is too big, the capacity will definitely be insufficient. However, some batteries have different capacities. In addition, you can also feel from the outer packaging whether the weight of the battery is relatively heavy. If it is heavy, it will tend to be a high-quality energy storage battery.

      3. Test internal resistance and maximum current

In fact, the fastest way to judge the performance of an energy storage battery is to test the internal resistance and maximum discharge current. A good quality energy storage battery has very small internal resistance and a large maximum discharge current. Use a multimeter with a 20A range and directly short-circuit the two electrodes of the energy storage battery. The current should generally be around 10A, or even higher, and can be maintained for a period of time. A relatively stable battery is a good battery.

      4. Detect live work

During the charging process of the energy storage battery, if the battery poles do not get hot after continuous discharge for about 10 minutes, it proves that the battery protection board system is complete. Generally, the quality of energy storage batteries with high-quality protection boards is better than ordinary energy storage batteries.

      2. Precautions when using energy storage batteries

      1. The charging time of the energy storage battery becomes longer at low temperatures, which is a normal phenomenon. At low temperatures, the BMS will engage the heating relay, request the heating voltage and current from the OBC through CAN, and then charge while heating (or first heat to a certain level). After the temperature is reached, it enters the state of charging while heating.

      2. When the vehicle is parked and charged in a low-temperature environment with high battery capacity, due to the chemical characteristics of the battery, the SOC may jump to 100%, which is normal.

      3. The energy storage battery will switch to the trickle charging mode when it is charged to high power. The terminal charging time will be lengthened, and the estimated charging time displayed by the meter will be biased.

      4. When using the vehicle for the first time or after parking it for a long time, the SOC displayed by the instrument may be biased. It is recommended that the vehicle be fully charged to calibrate the SOC before using it for the first time or after parking it for a long time.

      5. In order to keep the energy storage battery in the best condition, please use charging equipment to fully charge the energy storage battery regularly (it is recommended to fully charge it at least once a week).

      6. To ensure the safety of energy storage batteries, vehicles should be kept away from flammable and explosive items, fire sources and various hazardous chemicals.

      7. The vehicle should be charged and parked away from heat sources and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, otherwise it will reduce the service life of the energy storage battery.

      8. In order to ensure long-term performance, avoid continuously exposing the vehicle to an environment with a temperature greater than 60°C or less than -30°C for more than 24 hours.

      9. When the vehicle is not used for a long time (more than 7 days), the battery power should be kept at 40%~60%, otherwise the service life of the energy storage battery will be reduced. If the vehicle is not used for more than 3 months, it must be checked every 3 months. The energy storage battery must be fully charged before being discharged to 40%~60%. Otherwise, the energy storage battery may be over-discharged, reducing battery performance, or even being damaged, resulting in vehicle failure and damage.
