US research and development of transparent LR03 battery may be used in the electronics field
According to reports from the American Physicists Organization website, American scientists pointed out in the latest issue of "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences" that they have developed a transparent lithium-ion battery that is very flexible and costs about the same as conventional batteries. , is expected to flex its muscles in the field of consumer electronics.
Several companies have previously successfully created partially transparent electronics, such as digital photo frames and mobile phones with transparent keyboards. However, because the key active materials in batteries cannot be made transparent or replaced with transparent materials, fully transparent e-book readers or mobile phones have not yet been developed. Now, Cui Yi (transliteration), an associate professor in the Department of Materials and Engineering at Stanford University, and his graduate student Yang Yuan (transliteration) have developed a transparent lithium-ion battery, bringing fully transparent mobile phones one step closer to people.
The electrodes of the transparent battery have a grid-like structure, and the width of each line in the grid is about 35 microns (the resolution ability of the human eye is between 50 and 100 microns. If the material is smaller than 50 microns, it will appear transparent to the human eye. ), because the individual lines are so small, light will pass through the transparent gaps between the network lines, and the entire mesh area will appear transparent.
To create the transparent battery, Cui Yi and Yang Yuan devised an ingenious and unique three-step process. First, they settled on the transparent and elastic compound polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), replacing conventional opaque materials such as copper or aluminum. PDMS is very cheap, but it is not conductive. To do this, they poured PDMS into a silicon model to create a grid-like trench, and then let the vapor generated by the metal film float above the trench to create a conductive layer. They then poured a solution containing nanoscale effective electrode materials into the trench to create the electrode. Next, Yang Yuan modified a gel electrolyte so that it could serve as both an electrolyte and a separator. Because the materials used to make separators in conventional batteries are opaque, this is a critical step.
By precisely placing a new transparent electrolyte between two electrodes, Cui Yi and Yang Yuan created a functional transparent battery that can be made larger and more powerful by adding multiple layers. .
As long as the network cables are matched accurately, transparency is maintained. Light transmission tests show that the cell's transparency in visible light is 62%; the transparency of three cells stacked together is 60%, and the entire cell is very soft. What's more, it costs the same as conventional batteries.
