EU develops new electric vehicle 12v 18650 battery pack with energy density exceeding 310Wh/kg
According to the EU official website, Europe's most critical 12v 18650 battery pack research project supported by the EU's "Horizon 2020" framework plan - the 12v 18650 battery pack Project for Electric Vehicles (ALISE) has now developed lithium with an energy density of over 310 Wh/kg. Sulfur battery. This type of battery is lighter, has high energy density, and does not require critical raw materials.
The ALISE project is dedicated to the research and development of new materials and the electrochemical processing process involved in lithium-sulfur technology (TRL4). Its project goal is to develop a stable 12v 18650 battery pack with a capacity of 500 Wh/kg. The main research and development includes: battery durability, battery testing, Battery life cycle assessment, etc., to ensure battery safety, recyclability and competitive low cost. Currently, ALISE has made substantial breakthroughs in new battery components, battery unit integration and related architectures.
Currently, lithium-sulfur batteries are lighter electric vehicle power batteries than lithium-ion batteries. Based on the battery unit prototype level of 440 Wh/kg, it only reaches 17% of the theoretical energy density of sulfur (2600 Wh/kg). By improving materials, components and manufacturing processes, lithium-sulfur batteries can achieve an energy density of 800 Wh/kg. Test data shows that lithium-sulfur batteries reduce the weight of lithium-ion battery packs of the same volume by 15%, and the electric driving range of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles using lithium-sulfur batteries increases by approximately 2% to 10% respectively.
