Soft pack lithium batteries are mainly for the high-end market, the profit margin of the unit product is higher, under the same production capacity conditions, the relative profit is higher than that of aluminum shell lithium batteries, and the capital return cycle is short. Because aluminum shell batteries are easy to form scale effects, product pass rate and cost are easy to control, and the two have considerable profits in their respective market areas.
The aluminum shell lithium battery adopts the laser sealing process, while the soft pack lithium ion battery adopts the hot melt process. The sealing property of the aluminum shell battery is better than that of the soft pack lithium ion battery, which avoids the aging and air leakage at the seal. The bursting pressure of the soft-pack lithium-ion battery is much less than that of the aluminum-shell battery, due to the use of aluminum-plastic composite film packaging, the mechanical strength of the soft-pack lithium-ion battery is not high, in the case of safety accidents such as internal short circuit, the battery is easy to bulge and exhaust, reducing the risk of explosion, and the aluminum-shell battery uses a fully sealed process, under the same conditions, the air pressure is not easy to discharge, increasing the safety risk.
The mass energy density of the soft-pack lithium battery pack is higher than that of the aluminum-shell battery, and the same volume of the battery (2Ah~5Ah), the soft-pack lithium-ion battery is about 10%-20% lighter than the aluminum-shell lithium battery. Under the condition of gradual improvement of technological maturity, lithium battery soft packs have the potential to replace aluminum shell lithium batteries, and the advantages will be further highlighted.
