Developed new solid electrolyte that may replace 18650 lithium ion battery cell
According to foreign media reports, the Hosein Research Group at Syracuse University in the United States has developed a new solid electrolyte to replace the current liquid electrolyte in aluminum-ion batteries, enabling it to meet high-demand applications such as automobiles. . The electrolyte consists of a very soft polymer that also allows aluminum ions to penetrate, and a very hard epoxy resin that provides thermal stability and durability. The polymer is converted into an aluminum ion electrolyte by dissolving aluminum salts (such as aluminum nitrate) into the polymer matrix.
Currently, Hussain's research group is actively working to realize the fabrication of all-solid-state aluminum-ion batteries, in which all components including the electrolyte are solid state, which will help integrate aluminum-ion batteries into high-demand applications such as automobiles.
