L822 battery technology welcomes major breakthroughs, A-share listed companies lead the solid-state battery market

In an era of competing technologies, a new development has once again shaken up the world of electric vehicle giants. A solid-state battery patent recently submitted by Fisker was exposed a few days ago, showing the prototype of future batteries. However, Fisker is not the only company working hard in this area. From the world's top 500 automobile giants to related domestic industry chain companies in China, they are already polishing their skills for this.

The big energy of future batteries

According to the exposed Fisker solid-state battery patent, charging an electric vehicle can take as little as 1 minute, giving it a cruising range of about 800 kilometers. The company hopes to make this technology commercially available in 2023.

Compared with liquid lithium batteries that are currently widely used, solid-state batteries have their own advantages. Fisker said its special design solves the problem of low energy density of lithium-ion batteries and makes charging faster.

Fisker isn't the only one looking at this area. Toyota is also currently developing electric vehicles powered by all-solid-state batteries and plans to put them on sale in 2022. Toyota executive vice president Didier Leroy recently confidently claimed that its solid-state battery technology could be a game-changer and even has the potential to significantly increase driving range.

Executives at German auto parts supplier Continental said last week that they would invest in next-generation solid-state batteries that may be put into production in 2024 or 2025.

The British company Dyson has announced an investment of 1 billion pounds in researching solid-state battery technology. The company also acquired solid-state battery company Sakti3 for US$90 million.

      Industry-university alliances abound

For the research and development of solid-state batteries, not only industry players are working alone, many have formed industry-academia alliances, and Chinese academic circles also have research results in this area. Let’s take a look at which ones are available:

NASA is working with the University of Miami to develop a new type of solid-state L822 battery, which will be used in microsatellites and the International Space Station.

According to Japanese media reports, Tokyo Institute of Technology is developing solid-state batteries and is trying to cooperate with large automobile manufacturers to apply the low resistance proven in thin films to block batteries and strive to develop batteries that can be used for a long time.

The research team of China's Qingdao Energy Storage Industry Technology Research Institute creatively proposed the design concept of "flexible and rigid" polymer electrolytes last year, constructed a composite electrolyte material system, and prepared a series of solid polymer electrolyte systems with excellent comprehensive performance. It effectively solved the problem of not balancing various properties of polymer electrolytes and developed a new key material system for solid electrolytes.

      Many listed companies have participated

Among A-share listed companies, many have begun research on solid-state batteries.

Jiawei Co., Ltd. responded to investors’ questions on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s interactive platform on November 17: “Currently, the L822 battery factory has entered the installation and commissioning stage of equipment. It is expected to be officially put into production in mid-to-late December. The batteries that will be mass-produced are mainly Fast-charging solid-state battery.”

Jian Rui Wo Neng said on November 13 on the interactive platform of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange: "In terms of solid-state batteries, we are cooperating with scientific research institutions for research and development. For example, we are currently conducting research and development with Peking University, and samples will be produced by the end of next year."

Hanrui Cobalt stated on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Interactive Platform on October 16: "The basic system of cathode materials for solid-state batteries has not changed. Currently, cathode materials still use lithium cobalt oxide and multi-element materials, and the status of cobalt has not changed."

Ganfeng Lithium said on September 29 on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s interactive platform: “The company has introduced a group of solid-state battery R&D teams.”

Guoxuan Hi-Tech stated on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange’s interactive platform on September 29: “The company has carried out solid-state battery technology research and development at the Japanese Research Institute and will advance the progress of related product development as soon as possible. At the same time, the company pays close attention to upstream key raw materials including solid electrolytes. R&D and industrialization progress. Solid-state batteries will significantly increase the capacity density of existing power batteries, and the cruising range is closely related to the battery capacity."

Dangsheng Technology stated on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Interactive Platform on September 28: "The company is carrying out forward-looking development of solid-state L822 battery technology to lay the foundation for the company to continue to maintain technological and market competitive advantages in the future."
