      What damage does fast charging do to the battery?

      Everyone has heard that electric vehicles have two differences: fast charging and slow charging. We all also know that fast charging is much faster than slow charging, but what is the essential difference between them?

Generally, fast charging is high-power DC charging, which can fully charge 80% of the battery capacity in half an hour. Slow charging refers to AC charging, and the charging process takes 6-8 hours.

      Slow charging is plugged into the 220V AC socket at home for charging. Since the battery cannot accept AC charging, slow charging converts 220V AC into DC and then boosts it to the battery charging voltage such as 500V DC. Then use this 500V DC charges the battery.

      From this it can be concluded that the maximum charging power of slow charging is about P=UI=220V*10A=2.2KW. It can be seen that the power of fast charging 16.25KW is much greater than that of slow charging 2.2KW, so we can find that fast charging is much faster than slow charging.

      Advantages and disadvantages of slow charging: small current, long charging time, low charger and installation costs; it can make full use of low power periods for charging, reducing charging costs; it can deeply charge the battery, improve battery charging and discharging efficiency, and extend battery life.

      Household slow charging AC: Since the average household 220V AC socket is 10A and 16A, for the sake of safety, the charging current of slow charging is generally less than 10A, calculated according to the 10A standard.

      Advantages and disadvantages of fast charging: The battery pack can be quickly recharged in a short period of time, and the charging speed is fast; the installation requirements and costs of charging equipment are high, the current and voltage are high, and the impact on the battery is greater in a short period of time, and long-term fast charging affects the battery life.

      Hazards of fast charging: Fast charging of lithium 18500 battery is at the expense of the cycle life of the battery, because the battery is a device that generates electrical energy through electrochemical reactions. Charging is a reverse chemical reaction, and fast charging will input energy into the battery in an instant. High current and frequent use of fast charging mode will reduce the battery's recovery ability and reduce the number of battery charge and discharge cycles.

      Simply put, fast charging requires very high quality of the battery, and the reaction conditions of the battery under high current are too harsh and violent, far away from the equilibrium state, which will cause a great loss in the life of the battery and the safety factor will be significantly reduced.
