Price increase of key materials for lithium batteries

In addition to electrolyte, there is also a critical material supply shortage for lithium batteries, which is lithium copper foil. Copper foil is divided into electrolytic copper foil and rolled copper foil. Electrolytic copper foil is mostly used to make lithium batteries or rigid copper clad plates, while rolled copper foil is mostly used for flexible copper clad plates. Copper foil accounts for approximately 5% to 8% of the cost of lithium-ion batteries. As a key auxiliary material for lithium-ion batteries, copper foil plays a role as a negative electrode active material carrier and conductor. The supply of copper foil is quite tight, leading to a continuous increase in processing costs

Reasons for the price increase of lithium batteries

It is expected that the supply shortage of copper foil in the midstream materials of batteries may be second only to that of the electrolyte industry chain. Starting from December last year, copper foil processing fees began to increase. Before the Spring Festival, the processing fees for 8um and 6um increased by more than 15%. At the same time, as the demand for 4.5um copper foil further increased, the production capacity of 4.5um copper foil also began to be tight. In April, the processing fees for 4.5um increased by about 7-8%.
