1. Discharge method: Use a discharge tester to discharge the UPS power battery, which can more accurately measure the capacity and quality of the battery. But the test takes longer.
2. Conductivity test method: This method uses the method of testing the conductance in the UPS power battery to determine the quality and capacity of the battery. Generally, a bad battery has a smaller conductivity value. However, since the relationship between battery conductance and battery capacity is not very close, the error in testing battery capacity is large.
Battery testing methods
①:Measuring cell voltage method
Set the measuring range of the multimeter to the DC100V range, and place the two ends of the meter rod on the positive and negative poles of the monomer. The two points with the same color in Figure 1 are the positive and negative poles of the same monomer. If the battery is not in use at this time, the measured voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery. If the battery is in use, the measured voltage is the working voltage. The working voltage is related to the working conditions during measurement. The larger the working current, the smaller the working voltage.
②: Specific gravity reading
Use a thermometer to measure the electrolyte temperature.
Insert the pipette of the pipette type density meter vertically into the electrolyte, squeeze the rubber tube with your fingers, the electrolyte will be sucked into the glass tube, and the density meter float will float.
Read the density meter reading.
How to detect the quality of UPS power battery
A. Appearance inspection
Since it is difficult to distinguish the quality of UPS power batteries without using them for a period of time or using special tools, you can only get a direct impression from the appearance before purchasing. Buyers should look at whether the outer packaging of the battery is strong and beautiful. Whether the casing and connecting terminals are clean and bright, whether the seal is good, whether the terminal welding is firm, whether there is leakage, deformation, cracks, corrosion, etc., all these can reflect the quality of the battery from one side.
B. Charge and discharge detection
Whether the battery capacity reaches the nominal value can be tested through the charge and discharge test. After the newly purchased UPS battery has been continuously charged for more than 8 hours, a discharge test is performed with a resistive load of a certain resistance. During discharge, the battery must be discharged at certain intervals. Measure the terminal voltage of the battery and draw a graph of the ratio of terminal voltage decrease with time. Batteries with slow voltage decrease are better.
Check the technical condition of the UPS power battery by charging it
In order to further check the nature and extent of the fault of the UPS power battery, so as to accurately determine its technical status, the battery charging process can be combined with the inspection. Based on the different performances of the battery during the charging inspection, the internal fault and its cause of the battery can be determined.
1. Normal state. When charging the advanced Yuasa battery, the battery voltage and electrolyte specific gravity rise according to a certain pattern, and the electrolyte temperature is not high. This shows that the technical status of the battery is normal, but it is excessively discharged and should be charged.
2. Vulcanization state. When charging the internally vulcanized Guangdong Yuasa battery, the initial cell voltage can rise to about 2.8V, and the electrolyte temperature is also high. As charging continues, after a few hours, the cell voltage will drop to 2.2V, and then it will drop to 2.2V. A slow rise is the same as a good battery charge. For batteries that are severely sulfated inside, the voltage of a single cell will be higher than 2.8V, and the specific gravity of the electrolyte will not increase. At the beginning of charging, the battery will bubble.
3. Active substances fall off. When charging a UPS battery with severe active material loss, the electrolyte will be turbid, the battery capacity will be reduced, the charging time will be shorter than that of a normal battery, and phenomena such as electrolyte boiling and the end of charging will also occur earlier.
4. Self-discharge. Self-discharging batteries take a long time to charge, and the electrolyte specific gravity and terminal voltage rise slowly. If there is a serious short circuit inside the battery, no matter how long the charging time is, the electrolyte specific gravity and terminal voltage will not increase, and there will be no bubbles in the battery, and the electrolyte will be like a pool of stagnant water.
For managers of UPS power batteries, everyone knows that it is not enough to rely on experience and tips for daily maintenance and testing of batteries. Times are progressing, and when there are a large number of batteries, a dedicated "battery internal resistance test" is necessary. Only by using a "measuring instrument" can we find out the outdated batteries, test the internal resistance and voltage of the batteries, and initially estimate the battery capacity, thus solving the problem of difficulty in testing the battery capacity. After checking out the outdated batteries, we can correct the problem. Effectively control the daily status of UPS batteries.
