Recently, we've often heard about solid-state batteries, which have certain advantages over conventional ones. While they aren't fully cater for everyday use, a newly developed butter-like substance can help change the situation. Typically, lithium-ion batteries consists of two opposing electrodes (anode and cathode) separated by a liquid electrolyte. Lithium ions pass through a liquid electrolyte, which flow back and forth between the two electrodes during the charging and discharge cycles.
But unfortunately, this electrolyte is often not environmentally friendly and poses battery challenges when the battery is damaged or treated. Furthermore, they are quite flammable and therefore ignite during an overheating process known as thermal runaway. Solid-state batteries attempt to address these problems by replacing liquid electrolytes with environmentally friendly, non-flammable solid ceramic electrolytes. But a problem remains because the interface between the anode and the material may exhibit chemically instability, limiting the speed of ion passage.
Researchers from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and Xi'an Jiaotong University in China are trying to solve the flaw with their new mezzanine slurry. The texture is similar to & quot; butter & quot in the refrigerator;, which is applied to the surface of the lithium metal anode to form a transition layer between it and the solid electrolyte .It consists of nanoparticles of electrolyte materials-a ceramic called LAGP-with an ionic liquid.
When added to existing solid state batteries, this slurry was found to increase current density 10 times."This dissection significantly improves the stability of battery cells and is therefore able to withstand higher current density," said Shizhao Xiong, a researcher at Chaalmore University of Technology."It's also important that it's very easy to apply soft material on the lithium metal anode in the battery-just like butter on a sandwich.”
(Mottcell is leading manufacturer to produce lifepo4 battery in china, we mainly produce LiFePO4 Charge battery, it belongs to Lithium battery. Compare with other battery, lifepo4 battery has longer life, more light weight, small size, no pollution, widely used on solar light, storage and UPS….. )
