      Research on the application of integrated iron lithium batteries in the communication industry. Due to the high reliability requirements of communications, a complete communications power supply solution requires that the switching power supply system be equipped with batteries with high reliability and high safety. It is expected that lithium iron phosphate batteries will become the main power supply configuration for many types of communication main equipment and auxiliary equipment in the future.

      After several years of development, the application of lithium iron phosphate batteries in the communications industry has entered the small-scale application stage from the pilot stage. Compared with lead-acid batteries, the performance advantages of lithium iron phosphate batteries in terms of cycle life, operating temperature, weight specific energy, volume specific energy, etc. are well known. There are also many articles comparing related parameters, so I will not go into details here. The editor of this article analyzes and discusses the application scenarios, installation and construction, parameter setting and other aspects of iron lithium batteries in the regional existing network.

      1. Classification of lithium iron phosphate batteries

      Depending on the number of single-cell batteries, there are battery packs composed of 15 and 16 strings. Due to relatively good low-temperature characteristics, the Hangzhou Branch of China Mobile Communications Group Zhejiang Co., Ltd. currently uses 16-string batteries. This article discusses based on 16-cell iron lithium battery.

      Lithium iron phosphate batteries are classified into integrated and discrete battery packs in terms of application; according to different combinations of battery packs and battery management systems, China Mobile Communications Base Station Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Enterprise Standard (QB-H-005-2012) It is mainly divided into three modes.

      (1) IBS mode: an integrated battery pack consisting of 16 small-capacity lithium iron phosphate batteries connected in series and a battery management system placed in the same device.

      (2) LBMS mode: It consists of 16 larger-capacity lithium iron phosphate batteries connected in series and a battery management system. The battery management system can be installed independently or in a discrete battery pack within a switching power supply system.

      (3) LBAM mode: A discrete battery pack consisting of 16 larger-capacity lithium iron phosphate batteries connected in series and a battery acquisition module. The battery protection and alarm functions are completed by the switching power supply system.

      At present, the IBS model has been applied in batches in Zhejiang Province, and the latter two models are only in the sporadic pilot stage. The author believes that the latter two models have not yet been promoted, mainly due to two factors: high prices and the fact that industry standards for discrete lithium iron phosphate battery packs for communications have not yet been introduced.

      2. Application of integrated iron lithium battery in outdoor communication stations

      At present, the IBS mode lithium iron phosphate battery technology is relatively mature, and the conventionally used single battery packs have capacities of 10Ah, 20Ah, 30Ah, and 50Ah as a replacement and supplement for lead-acid batteries. According to the characteristics of lithium iron batteries such as high temperature resistance and high rate discharge, they are mainly used in harsh environment scenarios such as indoor distribution, WLAN, and outdoor cabinet stations. Among them, due to the large environmental temperature differences throughout the year at outdoor cabinet sites, especially high temperatures in summer, frequent thefts, etc., the existing network backup power supply protection situation of this type of site is severe and the cost is high.

      Regional outdoor cabinets all use ventilation or heat exchange methods. In summer, the temperature inside the high-temperature battery cabinet can be as high as 55°C, and a few cabinets are even higher. Lead-acid batteries generally need to be replaced every two years. At the end of 2012, Qiantang Tourism Company's outdoor base station used a 150Ah integrated lithium iron phosphate battery to replace the original 200Ah lead-acid battery as a pilot project. After two years of testing, the performance of the lithium iron battery is still good.

      Calculated based on this year’s centralized procurement prices in this province, the price of a 150Ah lithium iron battery is 11,400 yuan, and the original brand 200Ah lead-acid battery is 5,040 yuan/pack. The warranty period for iron lithium batteries is 6 years. Within 6 years, 3 sets of lead-acid batteries need to be replaced at a total cost of 15,120 yuan, not including replacement and logistics costs. In addition, the theft rate of lead-acid batteries in outdoor stations is very high. Since iron lithium batteries are an emerging product with low external recognition rate and there are currently no sales channels, the theft rate is very low.

      In the medium to long term, promoting the use of integrated lithium iron phosphate batteries in outdoor stations can reduce costs and increase efficiency. Through exchanges, we learned that similar situations exist in other areas of the province. It can be seen that the need for lithium iron phosphate batteries to replace lead-acid batteries in outdoor stations is particularly urgent.

      3. Lithium iron phosphate batteries have the following main applications in the communications industry:

      (a) Outdoor base station;

      (b) Base stations without air conditioning such as village access;

      (c) Indoor macro base station with tight space;

      (d) DC powered indoor coverage/distributed source station;

      (e) Solar photovoltaic base stations in areas where there is no mains power or Category 3 or 4 mains power;

      (f) WLAN sites with DC power supply solutions, etc.

      For the communications industry, we mainly focus on the three major advantages of lithium iron phosphate batteries, which reflect energy conservation and emission reduction from the perspectives of "energy saving", "land saving" and "material saving". Lithium iron phosphate power battery packs are a new thing in the mobile communications industry. However, during the pilot verification of the new product, it was unanimously recognized by various experts and scholars. With the strong support and promotion of the government, lithium iron phosphate batteries will be more widely used.
