Nowadays, environmental pollution and energy crisis have attracted widespread attention from all over the world, and vehicle exhaust emissions have become a major factor in environmental pollution that cannot be ignored. Against this background, vigorously developing electric vehicles has become an urgent task recognized by countries around the world. However, among existing practical batteries, lithium-ion batteries are recognized as the most promising power batteries due to their high capacity density and energy density.

In order to promote the sustainable and healthy development of the lithium-ion battery industry, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently issued the "Lithium-ion Battery Industry Standard Conditions" (hereinafter referred to as the "Conditions"). The introduction of new regulations for the lithium battery industry is intended to strengthen the scientific management of the lithium-ion battery industry, improve the development level of the industry, and further guide industrial transformation, upgrading and structural adjustment. At the same time, in order to strictly control new lithium-ion battery industry projects that simply expand production capacity and have low technical levels. The "Conditions" set requirements for the scale of the enterprise: the annual battery production capacity is not less than 100 million watt hours; the annual production capacity of cathode materials is not less than 2,000 tons; the annual production capacity of anode materials is not less than 2,000 tons; the annual separator production capacity is not less than 20 million square meters ; The annual electrolyte production capacity is not less than 2,000 tons, and the electrolyte production capacity is not less than 500 tons. When the enterprise declares, the actual output in the previous year shall not be less than 50% of the actual production capacity. In this regard, industry insiders pointed out that the new regulations on lithium batteries may promote the reshuffle of the industry.

New regulations "increased" to promote industry reshuffle

It is understood that in March this year, in order to guide and regulate the healthy development of the automotive power battery industry and encourage automotive power battery companies to become better and stronger, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Standard Conditions for the Automotive Power Battery Industry". It stipulates that the annual production capacity of lithium-ion power battery cell manufacturers shall not be less than 200 million watt-hours. The successive introduction of battery industry specifications and the implementation of access to lithium battery production will help strengthen the management of lithium batteries and promote the good and stable development of the battery industry. In addition, by stipulating that the annual production capacity of lithium-ion power battery cell manufacturers is not less than 200 million watt-hours, and the annual battery production capacity is not less than 100 million watt-hours, the reduction in production capacity requirements of individual companies will help prevent battery companies from following the trend. Power lithium batteries, thus leaving a lot of room for energy storage and consumer lithium-ion battery consumption needs.

Currently, the state is vigorously supporting the development of new energy vehicles out of environmental protection and reducing the consumption of non-renewable energy including petroleum. Coupled with the introduction of relevant preferential policies, power lithium battery companies have been encouraged to accelerate the pace of research and development and production. Currently, many small lithium battery manufacturers ignore quality issues in order to pursue corporate efficiency and personal interests. Battery safety issues have always been something that cannot be ignored in the long-term development of battery companies. The "Conditions" require that lithium-ion battery manufacturing companies must have the electrical performance and safety testing capabilities specified in relevant standards. Enterprises are encouraged to equip environmental adaptability testing instruments and equipment and have battery environmental adaptability testing capabilities.

Technical shortcomings still need to be overcome

Due to their high energy density and long cycle life, lithium-ion batteries are widely used in digital products, power tools, electric bicycles, new energy vehicles and energy storage, etc., and are recognized as the most promising new battery. However, the technology of the power lithium battery industry is updated rapidly. Even if no other new batteries appear, no matter in terms of technological improvements or production processes, they will face the threat of substitution by similar products at any time. Moreover, with the advent of the era of large-scale development of the industry, the industry will face a reshuffle. Among the many power lithium battery companies currently standing, a few companies will eventually win in the fierce competition, while a large number of companies will be acquired and merged, or even go bankrupt. . It is understood that my country still lags behind some advanced countries in power lithium battery technology, but my country has invested heavily in research on power lithium batteries. Industry insiders said that the electrode material of power lithium batteries is one of the focuses of research and development. It is directly related to the battery capacity, thus marking the strength of the battery's charge and discharge capabilities. Tang Sanxiao also said that the capacity of power lithium batteries currently produced in our country is lower than the world's advanced level, and the battery capacity gap of 100~200mAh places high technical requirements.

The person said that the lithium-ion battery industry has been developing for more than 20 years and the basic technology is relatively mature. But overall, the lithium-ion battery industry is still a sunrise industry with huge potential for future development and rapid technological progress. Improving the energy density of lithium-ion batteries and improving the safety performance of lithium-ion batteries are the main innovations in foreign lithium-ion battery technology. These two points are also bottlenecks facing the lithium-ion battery industry. Technological progress in increasing energy density and improving the safety of lithium-ion batteries will have a huge impact on the future development process of the industry.

Sun Yu, public relations director of Renrenche, said that currently, batteries have initially met the demand for electric vehicle products, but there is still room for improvement in terms of battery capacity and later battery recycling. How to improve the storage capacity of batteries is also a global technical threshold.

      Huge market development space

In recent years, with the successive introduction of national subsidy policies for new energy vehicles and the continuous improvement of charging facilities, new energy vehicle consumption in our country has been on the right track. In 2009 and 2013, the state promulgated and implemented new energy vehicle subsidy policies twice. Not only in China, major economies in the world have introduced relevant policies to support the development of new energy vehicles and related industries. It is worth noting that the rapid growth of new energy vehicles has driven the rapid growth of demand for power lithium batteries.

It is understood that before 2009, the share of lithium battery electric vehicles was relatively small, and electric vehicles mainly used nickel-metal hydride batteries as their power source (600405, Stock Bar). However, since lithium-ion batteries have the advantages of high energy density, fast charging, low cost and no memory compared with nickel-metal hydride batteries and lead-acid batteries, starting in 2010, automobile manufacturers began to significantly increase the use of lithium-ion batteries as power sources. proportion.

The relatively strong market demand for new energy vehicles is affected by many factors. Sun Yu said that on the one hand, car purchase restrictions and limited lottery indicators have directly promoted the development of new energy vehicles. On the other hand, national subsidy policies and the continuous maturation of battery technology are promoting the development of new energy vehicles. It is not difficult to see that there is a synergistic relationship between the development of the lithium battery industry and new energy vehicles. Industry insiders say that technological breakthroughs in lithium batteries and reductions in production costs will drive the development of new energy vehicles. At the same time, the market demand for new energy vehicles is also driving the production, research and development, and scale expansion of the lithium battery industry.

It is worth noting that in recent years, my country's logistics industry has developed rapidly. Under the background of "Internet +", the demand for logistics and distribution vehicles is also increasing. Under the advocacy of environmental protection concepts, green and environmentally friendly electric logistics vehicles have become a key choice for local governments and logistics companies. At the same time, national policies have also pointed out the corresponding development direction. It is understood that provinces and cities with relatively developed logistics industries, such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong Linyi, Xi'an, Wuhan, etc., have clarified the promotion of pure electric logistics vehicles in their local new energy vehicle promotion plans. plan.

At the same time, the "Implementation Opinions on Accelerating the Promotion and Application of New Energy Vehicles (Draft for Comment)" issued by the Ministry of Transport clearly stated that by 2020, the total number of new energy vehicles in my country's urban buses, taxis, urban logistics and distribution and other fields will be Reaching the target of 300,000 vehicles.

According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, from January to July this year, a total of 98,900 new energy vehicles have been produced, a year-on-year increase of 3 times. It is estimated that my country's electric vehicle sales will reach 220,000 units in 2015, a year-on-year increase of 162%. The demand for power lithium batteries will reach approximately 12.5GWh, with an output value of approximately 25 billion yuan, while the actual production capacity of power lithium batteries may only reach 5GWh. Obviously, my country's power lithium battery production capacity is far from meeting the current development needs of new energy vehicles, and there is huge room for development.
