Typically in freezing conditions, lithium-ion batteries become less capable of capacity retention and cycle efficiency, resulting in shorter run times for devices such as laptops and mobile phones, or shorter range for electric vehicles, In colder countries in the northern hemisphere, electric vehicles have been measured to reduce range by 41%. Low temperature can also cause lithium metal deposition to produce lithium dendrites, leading to problems such as internal short circuits and battery fires. How to maintain excellent performance of lithium batteries at low temperatures is a key technology.

After 30 charge and discharge cycles at 25℃; after 60 charge and discharge cycles at 0℃

Talga managing director Mark Thompson said, “Talnode-C allows lithium batteries to maintain performance in cold weather applications where traditional graphite anodes have difficulty or fail to perform. This is also evidence of the rapid development of Talga’s anode materials. It has potential in the growing lithium battery market." The product is currently being tested at an independent battery research institute in Japan.

Leveraging its unique processes, Talga has evolved into a high-tech advanced materials and technology company, creating a vertically integrated supply chain of graphite to graphene products.

Talga holds title to multiple high-grade graphite assets in northern Sweden, including three high-grade graphite mineral resources in Vittangi, Jalkunen and Raitajärvi. The Nunasvaara Graphite Deposit is part of the Vittangi Project and is the world’s highest grade JORC/NI 43-101 graphite mineral resource (12.3 million tonnes total resource, 25.5% graphite)

In addition, Talga also revealed that its graphene silicon battery anode material called Talnode-Si can store about 70% more energy in lithium-ion batteries than anodes that only use graphite. Commercial samples have been sent to large international battery companies at the end of February.

Talga has also extended its business to cobalt mines, purchasing the Kiskama project in 2012, which is Sweden's largest cobalt deposit. In addition, Talga owns other high-grade copper, cobalt and gold projects in the early stages of exploration in northern Sweden.
