Taking into account factors such as vehicle scrapping age and power battery life, the cumulative scrapped power batteries nationwide will reach 120,000-200,000 tons from 2018 to 2020; by 2025, the annual scrapped power battery volume may reach 350,000 tons.
In recent years, the development of new energy industry has been steadily improving. Data from the China Automobile Association shows that from January to April, the production and sales of new energy vehicles were 232,000 and 225,000 respectively, a year-on-year increase of 142.4% and 149.2% respectively.
Behind the gradually expanding new energy vehicle system, the demand for power battery scrap recycling and reuse has also increased. According to the forecast of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center, taking into account factors such as vehicle scrappage age and power battery life, the cumulative scrapped power batteries nationwide will reach 120,000-200,000 tons from 2018 to 2020; by 2025, the annual scrapped power battery volume may reach 35,000 tons. Thousands of tons. In this regard, BAIC has stated that after the power batteries are retired, if they are not disposed of properly, they are likely to cause environmental pollution. Therefore, it is very important to promote the recycling and resource processing of new energy vehicle power batteries and establish a complete automobile circular economic system.
Battery recycling enters "special" mode
On February 26 this year, the "Interim Measures for the Management of Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles" jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and the Energy Administration mentioned that the implementation of production The extended liability system requires automobile manufacturers to assume the main responsibility for recycling power batteries. This measure will take effect from August 1 this year. Faced with the upcoming interim management measures, car companies have begun to lay out their battery recycling business. Among them, some car companies have chosen to cooperate with other companies to jointly promote domestic power battery recycling and other related matters.
On January 4 this year, 16 complete vehicle and battery companies, including Changan, BYD, and Yinlong New Energy, reached a cooperation with China Tower Company, a major power battery recycling company, to solve problems such as the recycling and reuse of retired power batteries. In March this year, SAIC and CATL signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation, intending to further deepen cooperation and discuss jointly promoting the recycling and reuse of power batteries for new energy vehicles. This is also the second "marriage" between SAIC and CATL after announcing the establishment of a battery joint venture in 2017.
In addition, Beijing BAIC Penglong Automobile Service and Trading Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of BAIC Group, recently signed the "Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement on the Recycling and Utilization of Retired Power Batteries" with GEM Co., Ltd. to jointly build a new energy vehicle power battery recycling system. Cooperation in circular economy fields such as cascade utilization of decommissioned power batteries, resource treatment of used batteries, recycling, dismantling and recycling of scrap cars.
Battery processing technology and supervision still need to be improved
The reporter learned that since 2012, policies and guidance covering power battery recycling and dismantling have been released almost every year. However, power battery recycling and other related industries are still in their infancy. In addition, so far, only a few car companies have carried out relevant layouts. Both market size and processing technology will take time to improve.
Li Wenhai, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and deputy director of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Jinnan District, Tianjin, pointed out that my country's new energy vehicle battery recycling is facing three major problems: the small scale of the scrap battery recycling market, the low technical level, and the untimely processing of scrap batteries. . In this regard, Li Wenhai put forward three suggestions, including scientific treatment of rare resources, realizing step-by-step recycling, turning waste into treasure, strengthening scrap battery recycling market management, and introducing preferential policies to support the recycling of scrap batteries for new energy vehicles.
Similarly, Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the National Passenger Car Market Information Association, also believes that key technologies such as residual value assessment and health status assessment of decommissioned power batteries are not yet mature, and the research and development of related technologies for cascade utilization and recycling are relatively lagging behind. Industry experts are required to collaborate to promote technological innovation and application and break through technical difficulties.
“Different models have different battery designs, internal and external structural designs, module connection methods, integration forms, etc. There are differences. The same set of disassembly lines cannot be used to fit all battery packs and internal modules, resulting in extremely inconvenient battery disassembly. . Therefore, most processes are completed manually, but the skill level of workers may affect the yield during battery recycling. Therefore, it is also important to take measures and methods to ensure safety during battery disassembly. "Cui Dongshu introduced to reporters.
