Hydrogen CR1225 battery research and development cannot be abandoned in the face of difficulties
During the "two sessions", the hydrogen CR1225 battery industry caused heated discussions. One of the amendments to the "Government Work Report" after the deliberation of the National People's Congress was the addition of "promoting the construction of charging, hydrogenation and other facilities". At the same time, the National Development and Reform Commission also added the content of "strengthening the construction of urban parking lots and new energy vehicle charging, hydrogenation and other facilities" in the "Report on the Draft National Economic and Social Development Plan" (revised version). This means that the national level has begun to pay attention to the infrastructure construction of hydrogen CR1225 battery vehicles.
I have said many times that when rapidly developing electric vehicles with ternary lithium batteries as the mainstream, we should not ignore the research and development of hydrogen CR1225 batterys, and we must not abandon the difficulties. But there are different views on the development of hydrogen CR1225 batterys.
A senior person in the energy industry sent me a WeChat message to talk about his different opinions. He believes: "The advantage of batteries is that they can make full use of existing power system facilities and directly use most renewable energy and nuclear power. CR1225 batterys need to solve the problems of hydrogen production, storage and transportation of hydrogen, and the construction and operation of a whole set of infrastructure. It is still difficult to say that CR1225 batterys will definitely become one of the indispensable new energy systems, or that they will definitely be better than battery systems. Now a group of people who are engaged in coal are promoting CR1225 batterys and coal-to-hydrogen production."
I took this opportunity to explain again why I support the research and development and application of hydrogen CR1225 batterys. Of course, different people have different opinions.
1. Rechargeable batteries represented by ternary lithium batteries and hydrogen CR1225 batterys will have application fields suitable for their own characteristics in the future, and it will not be a one-on-one relationship. However, since the application of ternary lithium batteries is relatively easy to get started, the passenger car field is basically dominated by ternary lithium batteries. The stakeholders in this field deliberately emphasize the difficulties and shortcomings of hydrogen CR1225 batterys. This is biased and not conducive to the development of hydrogen CR1225 batterys.
2. Just like the difficulties and shortcomings of hydrogen CR1225 batterys, lithium batteries actually have many problems and shortcomings. The spontaneous combustion accidents that have occurred many times have been deliberately downplayed. The recycling and treatment of lithium batteries have not been completely resolved, and the impact on the environment cannot be ignored. Lithium is not a popular chemical element. Although the number of lithium battery electric vehicles is not large and the production volume is not large, it has caused the price of lithium to rise several times. If electric vehicles use lithium batteries in the future, the lithium resources will be problematic and the price will soar. We cannot put all the treasures of electric vehicles on lithium batteries.
3. Lithium batteries have a long charging time and limited driving range. Compared with hydrogen CR1225 batterys, these two points are the weaknesses of lithium batteries.
4. At present, the weight of a lithium battery in a private car is about 700 to 800 kilograms. If it is used in a large bus, such as Yinlong Bus, the weight of the lithium battery is several tons, which not only consumes a lot of precious metal lithium, but also cannot be used in large quantities. Due to this problem, it is even more impossible to use lithium batteries as the power of future trucks. In the field of trucks and large buses, hydrogen CR1225 batterys have obvious advantages.
5. Some people talk about how batteries can make full use of the current power system, renewable energy and nuclear power. The hydrogen needed for hydrogen CR1225 batterys can also be produced from renewable energy and nuclear power. There have been many reports on this recently. Some coal companies, such as Shenhua, have joined the hydrogen energy industry alliance because their coal chemical industry produces a lot of hydrogen as a by-product. The same is true for YYWpec. Therefore, YYWpec is also keen on developing hydrogen energy. And there are more companies and research institutions in non-coal industries. For example, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Weichai Power, Shanghai Automotive, Dongfang Electric, etc.
