According to Electrek, Tesla is developing its own battery within a "secret battery laboratory" while preparing to launch its own battery manufacturing.
Earlier this month, Tesla almost confirmed that it would use Maxwell technology to manufacture its own battery. Tesla CEO Elon Mask hinted at the shareholders' meeting that Tesla is using Maxwell's new technology to produce its own battery production. He further emphasized that Tesla may even minimize raw materials to produce batteries by himself.
According to Maxwell's introduction, its stem electrode technology can increase the energy density of the cell to more than 300WH/kg, and it may further increase to 500WH/kg in the future. Compared with Bittersla's existing battery cells, 500Wh/KG scores means that the energy density is doubled. Tesla acquired Maxwell in May this year.
According to CNBC, these batteries are developed in a "secret laboratory" near the Teslafremont plant.
Tesla's secret laboratory is not surprising. For most of the past 10 years, Tesla has a safe location to produce batteries on the second floor of the Fremont Factory.
CNBC reports that Tesla is developing its own battery and equipment to produce these batteries in the factory. Some current employees and former employees said that "Tesla battery research and development team employees are currently focusing on design and prototype and advanced lithium -ion batteries, as well as new equipment and new processes, which may enable Tesla to produce batteries in large quantities. "
In terms of electric vehicles, Tesla has always relied on Panasonic, which is the latter in Japan's Models and ModelX cars in Tesla to produce batteries, as well as Tesla's own super factory in Nevada to produce Model3 batteries.
Tesla is expected to expand its plan to expand battery production on a day at the end of the year.
