On June 23, the "2019 China (Qinghai) Lithium Industry and Power Battery International Summit Forum" was grandly held in Xining, Qinghai, China. This summit is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the People's Government of Qinghai Province and the China Electric Vehicles Association of 100. Leaders of industry authorities, experts and scholars, and representatives of well-known domestic and foreign companies from the fields of power batteries, new energy vehicles, and industrial chains gathered together to focus on "supporting the healthy development of electric vehicles with high-safety, low-cost, and recyclable batteries." Discuss how to ensure the safety of power batteries throughout their life cycle, power battery technology routes, cost optimization and echelon utilization and other industry development trends.
Wang Liming, deputy governor of the People's Government of Qinghai Province, introduced in his speech that as of now, Qinghai Province's power battery production capacity has reached 18.75GWh, ranking among the top in the country. Lithium carbonate has a built production capacity of 62,000 tons and 90,000 tons are under construction; cathode material has a built production capacity of 39,000 tons and 32,000 tons are under construction; anode material has a built production capacity of 17,000 tons and 8,000 tons are under construction. As the most important lithium resource reserve region in China and even the world, Qinghai Province has initially built a relatively complete industrial system from salt lake resources - lithium carbonate anode and cathode materials - lithium battery components - energy storage and power batteries and supporting equipment. Next, Qinghai will use a more open attitude to provide better services and environment for scientific research institutions and enterprises, and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the lithium battery industry.
Ouyang Minggao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and executive vice chairman of the China Electric Vehicles Association of 100, pointed out in his speech that safety accidents are a fatal hazard for the development of new energy vehicles, and the essence of new energy vehicle safety accidents is battery thermal runaway. Based on this judgment, he introduced at the meeting the active safety prevention strategy for power battery thermal runaway of "early warning, intrinsic safety design and extended escape time" proposed by him and his team. Specifically, early control of thermal runaway inducements such as battery charging lithium deposition and fast charging control, battery internal short circuit and battery management is required; in the intrinsic safety design process, individual battery thermal runaway and thermal design are done well to prevent thermal runaway. ; In terms of extending the escape time, it is necessary to do a good job in thermal spread and thermal management of the battery system. In this regard, the team has developed battery lithium evolution testing, simulation and safe fast charging technology; battery short circuit testing, simulation and online monitoring technology; single battery thermal runaway mechanism, simulation and suppression technology; battery system thermal spread testing, simulation and suppression techniques.
Subsequently, the project report "Making Power Batteries Flow (Full Life Cycle Asset Operation Management of Power Batteries)" was released. Zhang Yongwei, secretary-general and chief expert of the China Electric Vehicles Association of 100, gave a brief introduction to the content of the project report.
At the beginning of the second half of the high-level forum, Kenan Sahin, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and president of CamxPower, delivered a speech titled "Supporting the Healthy Development of Electric Vehicles with Highly Safe, Low-Cost, and Recyclable Batteries." Kenan Sahin analyzed the development trends of the global electric vehicle market and the problems that need to be solved from various aspects such as global climate environmental change, future electric market demand, power battery technology innovation, cost reduction and safety improvement. Mr. Zeng Mu, executive vice president of the German Dekai Group and president of East and South Asia, gave a keynote speech on the theme of "Creating Power Battery Technology Innovation with Safety", focusing on how to improve the safety of power batteries from the battery testing link.
"Currently, lithium-ion batteries will remain the main energy solution for electric vehicles in the next ten years," said Wang Nianju, executive vice president of Tianjin Lishen Battery Co., Ltd., but the current challenges facing the industry include safety, cost, and charging. There are many aspects such as speed and insufficient charging facilities. Among them, safety and cost are currently the biggest challenges. In addition, Wang Nianju conducted in-depth analysis and introduction on three aspects: power battery safety, future lithium battery technology development route, and power battery recycling.
