In order to reduce energy storage costs and promote the further application of batteries in the field of energy storage, lead-carbon batteries have begun to take the stage of energy storage batteries in recent years. Lead carbon batteries have evolved from traditional lead-acid batteries. They combine lead-acid batteries with supercapacitors, allowing for short-term and high-capacity charging while maintaining the high specific energy characteristics of the battery. At the same time, they also have significant advantages in cycle life, cost-effectiveness, safety, low-temperature performance, production and recycling processes.
In June 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other three ministries jointly issued a notice on the "Implementation Methods for Manufacturing 2025 Energy Equipment in China", which clarified that high-performance lead-carbon battery energy storage equipment is a key technical research project in terms of energy storage equipment. At present, multiple domestic battery companies are gradually improving their layout in the field of lead-carbon batteries. As the earliest lead carbon battery energy storage application provider, Shuangdeng lead carbon energy storage batteries have been applied in multiple projects such as IDC machine room backup power supply and integrated wind and solar energy storage power stations; Shengyang Co., Ltd. applies lead-carbon batteries to energy storage, backup power supply, communication base station power supply, and other fields, and has the capacity for mass production; The lead carbon battery products developed by Nandu Power have been applied in multiple domestic energy storage demonstration projects.
Academician Yang Yusheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering believes that with significant advantages such as low cost, safety, easy availability of raw materials, reliability, and mature industrial technology, lead-carbon batteries have become an energy storage battery product that conforms to China's industrial layout and manufacturing level. Liu Yong, Secretary General of the Energy Storage Application Branch of the China Chemical and Physical Power Supply Industry Association, stated that as a new energy storage technology route, lead-carbon batteries have certain advantages and great development prospects in the current situation where the cost of lithium-ion batteries has not been reduced.
