At a certain operating temperature, sodium ions undergo reversible reactions between alumina ceramics and sulfur, forming energy release and storage. The specific energy density of sodium sulfur batteries is 3-4 times that of batteries. They are small in size, capable of high current and high-power discharge, with high charging and discharging efficiency, and abundant reserves of raw material resources.

　　The disadvantage of sodium sulfur batteries is the strong corrosiveness of their positive and negative active substances, which requires strict requirements for battery materials, battery structure, and operating conditions. The operating temperature is usually between 300 ℃ and 350 ℃, and additional heating equipment is required to maintain the temperature. Moreover, sodium sulfur batteries can only operate at temperatures around 300 ℃, resulting in longer startup time and limiting their application to some extent.
