Against the backdrop of my country's accelerating upgrading of new energy vehicles and companies' increased emphasis on product safety, active balancing is expected to become the main technical direction for the future balancing function of my country's BMS.
In the development of new energy vehicles, power batteries have long been considered a key component to promote the development of the industry. With the acceleration of technological innovation in the industry and the improvement of user awareness, the market has higher and higher requirements for power batteries. However, issues such as power battery safety, service life, and energy prediction have become innovation bottlenecks.
At this time, the battery management system (BMS), as an important link in the energy management and control of electric vehicles, is gradually regarded as a core technology by OEMs. Together with electronic control systems such as drives and vehicle control systems such as VCU, it constitutes the three major components of new energy vehicles. Electronic and electrical core technology.

Driven by the rapid development of the domestic new energy vehicle market in the past two years, the domestic power battery BMS market demand has also grown rapidly. In 2017, my country's new energy vehicle power lithium batteries achieved an installed capacity of 811,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 56.26%, with a market size of 4.55 billion yuan. Data from the GGII Electric Vehicle Research Institute (GGII) show that in 2018, the installed capacity of my country's new energy vehicle power lithium battery BMS products reached 1.22 million units, with an output value of 5.5 billion yuan.
Judging from the competitive landscape of my country's BMS market, the current third-party market share has shown a steady increase in market share. Third parties represented by Kelie Technology, Yineng Electronics, Ligao New Energy, Shanghai Miaoyi, etc. are steadily increasing in market share. Growth, especially in the commercial vehicle segment, where third parties are even becoming dominant. Although vehicle manufacturers and battery manufacturers still occupy a relatively important position, the advantages of professional third parties are expected to become more prominent in the future, driven by cost reductions brought about by technological improvements and specialized division of labor in the industry.
From the perspective of industry technology trends, the balance control of BMS is one of the technical commanding heights for extending the life of power batteries. Currently, passive balancing appears earlier and the technology is relatively mature, and passive balancing has less impact on battery life and has lower costs. In line with the current market situation in which my country's new energy vehicles are mainly concentrated in the mid- to low-end, car companies generally adopt a passive equilibrium.
However, since passive equalization uses resistors to consume energy, heat will be generated, reducing the efficiency of the entire battery system. The principle of active balancing lies in the transmission and distribution of energy, which can make the energy utilization rate of the power battery high and significantly improve the driving experience.
Against the backdrop of my country's accelerating upgrading of new energy vehicles and companies' increased emphasis on product safety, active balancing is expected to become the main technical direction for the future balancing function of my country's BMS.

In order to provide the industry and investment community with more detailed and accurate decision-making and investment basis, the GGII Electric Vehicle Research Institute (GGII) conducted a large number of on-site surveys of major battery cell and BMS companies across the country, combined with interviews with industry leaders. Based on face-to-face interviews and the collection of a large amount of first-hand information, the "2019 China Power Lithium Battery BMS Industry Analysis Report (Third Edition)" was formed.
