Research data from the Gaogong Industrial Research Lithium Battery Research Institute (GGII) shows that China’s newly installed capacity reached 629MW in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 420%. Among them, the newly put into operation grid-side electrochemical energy storage scale is 206.8MW, accounting for 36% of the newly put into operation electrochemical energy storage scale in the country, becoming the main growth point. Low cost, long life, safety, and specialization are also key evaluation indicators for energy storage integrators to consider lithium battery companies. Low cost. During the public bidding process in 2018, BYD's Pinggao bidding process has reached 0.86 yuan/Wh. As the scale continues to expand, this price is expected to fall further. Regarding long life, Pinggao has also done relevant research with some scientific research institutes and battery manufacturers to explore lithium batteries with a lifespan of nearly 20 years and a cycle life of more than 10,000 times. Only with this goal can the energy storage system approach the lifespan of the switch cabinets in the power grid and truly match the operating life of other standard facilities in the power grid. Judging from the current progress of the project, the possibility of realization is still very high. Safety, from the perspective of grid-side energy storage safety, mainly focuses on fire early warning and emergency prevention of subsequent fires. Thermal runaway blocking of battery cells, the prevention of battery thermal runaway expansion, complete fire warning, including early warning of some accidents, and the final emergency and disaster prevention system, a complete set of all-round safety system is a perfect safety system planning direction. In terms of specialization, the concept of special batteries for energy storage has gradually emerged. More and more battery manufacturers have launched special batteries for energy storage, mainly targeting the performance characteristics of long life, high safety, and high reliability of energy storage. ?BMS: The trend of multi-parameter high-density monitoring continues to deepen multi-parameter high-density monitoring. The battery is a typical Internet of Things system. During the entire battery operation process, and even during the storage process, intensive monitoring of operating parameters is very important for the entire battery evaluation. The Pinggao Jiangsu project has begun to monitor the temperature of each battery string. In the future, gas monitoring and other parameters will be added. This trend will continue to deepen in the future. High-speed communication technology. This is also combined with the increase in monitoring density and frequency of monitoring, and the amount of data is also increasing. The demand for energy storage data communication is increasing, so high-speed communication is required. The degree of modularity is getting higher and higher. BMS analysis technology based on big data is becoming more and more convenient, especially after the integration of three stations into one. Algorithms based on AI artificial intelligence data models are conducive to convenient acquisition of computing resources. ?PCS: Millisecond-level rapid response Ruan Peng said that there are increasing demands for the application of energy storage transient characteristics. The energy storage system has several important features: 1. Rapid response capability. The PCS device can respond in milliseconds. 2. Precise control, the entire output power must be controlled very precisely. From the perspective of PCS technology trends, due to the relatively large scale of power grid technology synchronization, precise synchronization control technology is very important. The technical level of intelligent safety warning and control does not start from the perspective of a single device, but must be integrated with BMS and EMS to form a complete system for safety warning and control. At the same time, multi-machine parallel resonance suppression technology, virtual synchronization technology, high-tech manufacturing technology, etc. are all future technology exploration directions for energy storage PCS.
