Converting light energy into solar energy is not difficult, but efficient conversion and large-scale use cannot be achieved. This is why people always rely on the power grid and do not form a nationwide solar cell network. However, research teams at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Central Florida have taken a big step forward in this possibility through experimental studies. Researchers have invented a method to create a large nanostructured silicon-based micro-battery to ensure that solar cells are lighter, more efficient, bendable and easy to mass-produce. Relevant research papers were published in the journal Advanced Energy Materials. The research team used a light-capturing solution based on nanoprinting technology to achieve the flexibility required by researchers for the battery, allowing the design to ultimately achieve mass production. In the past, scientists have proposed how much the light absorption rate has been improved in battery solutions, but they have not explained the photoelectric conversion efficiency. In this research paper, researchers demonstrate that the light capture method can improve photoelectric conversion efficiency. Researchers believe the technology could one day provide electricity and energy storage for hours in solar-powered homes.
