The strategic partnership between Mercedes-Benz and CATL New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CATL") has reached a new level. The two parties will jointly develop high-tech battery technology to support the large-scale expansion of Mercedes-Benz model lineup. Electrification at scale. Mercedes-Benz is accelerating its "electric first" strategy, and CATL, a leader in lithium battery technology, will supply it with advanced cells, modules and battery systems that meet carbon-neutral standards. The content of the agreement between the two parties covers power lithium battery technology in various fields, including the supply of cells and modules for Mercedes-Benz passenger car products, the supply of overall battery systems for Mercedes-Benz light commercial vehicle products, and It will have promising innovative technical indicators. In addition, the agreement also includes the CTP (moduleless battery pack) design supplied by CATL for some projects, which eliminates the need for traditional battery modules and integrates the cells directly into the battery pack.

The battery system is highly complex, and the battery cell is its core. Its chemical system has a key impact on the performance, cruising range and service life of electric vehicles. Through the strategic cooperation with CATL, Mercedes-Benz will promote the development of first-class lithium battery technology now and in the future. The two parties have begun research and development of next-generation batteries, and the results will be applied to new models launched by Mercedes-Benz in the next few years. Clear R&D goals include shortening the R&D cycle, significantly increasing battery range by increasing energy density, and reducing charging time. In order to increase the appeal of electric vehicles to customers in the luxury car market, both parties have set high goals. The luxury pure electric sedan EQS equipped with CATL battery modules will be delivered to customers next year, and its cruising range will exceed 700 kilometers (WLTP standard) , charging speed is twice as fast as existing models.

Mercedes-Benz and CATL are both committed to developing and producing power lithium batteries with first-class performance in terms of quality and performance while maximizing sustainable development.

Adhering to "Vision 2039", Mercedes-Benz is committed to achieving the long-term goal of carbon neutrality in its passenger car product lineup and actively promoting the transformation of travel methods to carbon neutrality. To minimize the carbon footprint of current and next-generation models, the parties have agreed on carbon-neutral production of battery products. To this end, CATL will use renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydropower in production. The carbon-neutral production of battery cells alone can reduce the carbon footprint of the entire battery by more than 30%. Earlier this year, the two parties jointly launched a pilot project using blockchain technology, which will make the occurrence of climate-damaging gases and the proportion of recycled raw materials in the battery supply chain more transparent. In the future, both parties will further reduce overreliance on raw material mining through battery recycling.

The strategic cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and CATL will further accelerate the industrial development of high-tech battery technology in Germany. As the construction of CATL's Thuringia plant advances, CATL is establishing and improving its European service system to provide Mercedes-Benz with more competitive products and a more stable battery supply. Mercedes-Benz can purchase batteries from CATL's Thuringia plant, further increasing the localized procurement rate of its supply chain. Mercedes-Benz sources lithium-ion battery cells and battery packs from various partners on the global market. To remain competitive, Mercedes-Benz will continue to build a balanced supplier portfolio.
