For readers who are not familiar with the principles of lithium-ion battery technology, 18650 lithium battery and lithium polymer battery are probably the two words they hear the most. Many businesses will praise polymer batteries to the sky and trample on 18650 batteries when promoting their own products, which is not too strict.
In fact, the principles of different types of batteries are basically the same, with positive electrodes, negative electrodes, and electrolytes. Currently, the nominal voltage of a single cell in mainstream lithium batteries is generally 3.7V. The positive electrode materials are generally lithium cobalt oxide, lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide (also known as ternary materials), lithium iron phosphate or lithium manganese oxide, etc. The negative electrode materials are generally graphite, and the electrolyte is generally lithium hexafluorophosphate solution. The industry usually uses the external dimensions of lithium batteries to identify battery models. Lithium batteries can be divided into various types according to different rules: high-voltage lithium batteries distinguished by voltage, standard voltage lithium batteries, standard batteries distinguished by discharge rate (maximum 1C discharge), rate batteries (greater than 1C discharge), pure cobalt acid lithium batteries distinguished by positive electrode materials, ternary lithium batteries Lithium iron batteries (i.e. iron batteries with independent intellectual property rights that a certain factory fraudulently owns). The widely mentioned lithium-ion batteries are mostly distinguished by the packaging material of the shell, such as steel shell packaging represented by 18650 and early mobile phone batteries packaged in aluminum shell. The mainstream is lithium ion batteries packaged with aluminum plastic composite films, which we call lithium polymer batteries or soft packaged batteries.
It is not difficult to distinguish the batteries used in the device. The diameter and thickness of 18650 batteries are determined to be greater than 18mm and longer than 65mm. However, the lower cost of 18650 determines its market share, so those who hope for an affordable price can choose 18650, and those who hope for a lightweight structure can choose lithium polymer batteries.
