Aging can be divided into two situations: opening and sealing:

For batteries formed by opening, it is better to seal them after aging if the relative humidity can be controlled below 2% for room temperature aging,

For high-temperature aging, aging after sealing is better

However, it is certain that there are electrochemical kinetic changes during the aging process, which greatly contribute to the stability of SEI and promote the stability of the electrochemical system.

      The purpose of aging

In fact, the principle is similar. One reason is to allow the electrolyte to fully soak, and the other is that some active components in the positive and negative electrode active substances are deactivated through certain reactions, making the overall performance of the battery more stable. Many companies adopt high-temperature aging to accelerate this process, but high-temperature aging requires attention to controlling time and temperature, Because high-temperature aging can have more degradation effects on living materials than room temperature aging, if well controlled, the active components will fully react, the battery characteristics will be stable, if poorly controlled, and the reaction will be excessive, then there is a high possibility of a decrease in electrical performance, a decrease in capacity, an increase in IR, and even liquid leakage

The performance of batteries after high-temperature aging is more stable. The vast majority of lithium-ion battery manufacturers adopt high-temperature aging operation during the production process, aging at a temperature of 45-50 degrees Celsius for 1-3 days, and then storing at room temperature. After high-temperature aging, potential adverse phenomena of batteries will be exposed, such as voltage changes, thickness changes, and internal resistance changes, which directly test the comprehensive safety and electrochemical performance indicators of this batch of batteries.

Nowadays, the vast majority of battery companies use low-end domestic separators for mass production, and high-temperature aging has also become a hidden rule for the safety performance inspection of battery internal structures

High temperature aging is only to shorten the entire production cycle of the battery. Newly formed batteries only accelerate the chemical reaction of the battery at high temperatures, which does not have much benefit to the battery and may damage it. It is best to let the positive and negative electrodes, separators, electrolyte, etc. undergo sufficient chemical reactions at room temperature for more than three weeks to achieve equilibrium. At this time, the battery performance is the most stable.
