There are many classification methods for batteries used as chemical power sources in electric vehicles. Divided by electrolyte:
a. Alkaline battery. A battery in which the electrolyte is an alkaline aqueous solution;
b. Acid batteries. A battery in which the electrolyte is an acidic aqueous solution;
c. Neutral battery. A battery in which the electrolyte is a neutral aqueous solution;
d. Organic electrolyte solution batteries. A battery in which the electrolyte is an organic electrolyte solution.
Classified by the presence of active substances:
a. The active substance is stored on the electrode. It can be divided into primary battery (non regenerative, Primary battery) and secondary battery (regenerative, storage battery);
b. The active substance is continuously supplied to the electrode. It can be divided into non regenerative fuel cells and regenerative fuel cells.
According to certain characteristics of batteries, they are divided into:
a. High capacity batteries;
b. Maintenance-free batteries;
c. Sealed battery;
d. Combustible battery;
e. Explosion proof battery;
f. Button batteries, rectangular batteries, cylindrical batteries, etc.
Although the classification methods mentioned above are difficult to unify due to the wide variety, wide use, and significant differences in appearance of chemical power sources, they are generally divided into four categories based on their different working properties and storage methods:
