The United States has developed an active polymer electrolyte binder to double the capacity of 16340 battery

According to foreign media reports, the U.S. Department of Energys Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley National Laboratory for short) has designed an active polymer electrolyte binder (PEB) that can regulate key ion transport processes in 16340 battery and display its functional operation principles at the molecular level. Compared with traditional 16340 battery, the new polymer binder has doubled its capacity, even when discharged hundreds of times at high current densities. Researchers at the Molecular Foundry under Berkeley Lab designed a polymer that ensures that sulfur is very close to the electrode, mainly because it selectively bonds sulfur molecules to offset their migration. The Advanced Light Source of Berkeley Lab conducted relevant experiments, and the Electrochemistry Discovery Lab of Argonne National Laboratory also confirmed the above inference. A comprehensive understanding of the synthesis, theory and properties of new polymers makes the adhesive one of the important components of this lithium-sulfur battery cell. Researchers from the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) formed a research and development team together with scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), and the research and development funds for the project were provided by JCESR.
