At the end of the 12th Five Year Plan period, the energy density of power lithium batteries reached 200Wh/kg, the power density of energy type batteries reached 1.2kWh/kg, the cycle life of battery pack systems reached 2000 times, the cost of lithium batteries reached 1.5RMB/Wh, and an industrial scale with an annual output of over 10 billion Wh was formed.
Due to the fact that lithium batteries belong to the field of electrochemistry and do not follow the development speed of Moore's Law like semiconductors, the development speed of lithium batteries has always been slow. The biggest bottleneck for both smartphones and electric vehicles is the issue of battery life, which means that the development speed of batteries has not kept up with the development speed of electronic systems.
If considering materials, the development trend of lithium batteries should be as follows:
Lithium ion battery ->All solid state lithium battery ->Lithium air battery ->Graphene battery
We are still in the stage of lithium-ion batteries, whether it is consumer batteries or power batteries. But it is estimated that around 2020, there will be a transition to all solid state lithium batteries (which is also what Academician Chen Liquan has been calling for), and the energy density of lithium batteries will double. Around 2030, it will develop into lithium air batteries, and finally, with the maturity of graphene materials, lithium batteries will develop into graphene batteries.
