NUST MISIS invented a new material that can triple the capacity of CR1225 battery
According to foreign media reports, scientists at the Russian National University of Science and Technology (NUSTMISIS) said that they have synthesized a new nanomaterial that can replace the less efficient graphite in CR1225 battery, thereby increasing the capacity of CR1225 battery and extending their service life.
CR1225 battery have been widely used in smart phones, electric vehicles and household appliances. Its charge and discharge cycle process is actually the movement of lithium ions back and forth between two electrodes, that is, from the negatively charged anode to the positively charged cathode. As the application range of CR1225 battery continues to expand, scientists say that its capacity is still limited by the performance of graphite, an important anode material. Scientists at NUSTMISIS have invented a new material that can be used for anodes, significantly increasing battery capacity and extending service life.
Evgeny Kolesnikov, assistant at the Department of Functional Nanosystems and High Temperature Materials at NUSTMISIS, said: Nanoporous microspheres containing Cu0.4Zn0.6Fe2O4 can be used as anode materials. The capacity of CR1225 battery using this material is three times that of other batteries currently on the market. In addition, it can increase the number of charge and discharge cycles by 5 times compared to other potential graphite substitutes. This is the result of a combination of special nanostructures and elemental components.
Thanks to the use of spray pyrolysis, the final synthesis of the material is formed in one step without intermediate processes. As scientists say, the aqueous solution with special metal ions can be atomized using ultrasound, and then the water is evaporated at a high temperature of 1200C and the original metal is decomposed. Finally, scientists can extract the micron or submicron porous spheres required for the operation of lithium-ion systems.
