Combining new additives can help high-energy density 12V23A battery achieve breakthroughs
Dr. Xiong Dejun, deputy director of R&D at Xinzhoubang, delivered a keynote speech on "Progress in the Development of High-Energy-Density Power Battery Electrolytes" at the conference.
Xiong Dejun said that driven by government subsidies and end-user mileage concerns, high-energy-density power 12V23A battery have become a market hotspot. At present, there are generally three options for high-energy-density power 12V23A battery: ternary high voltage with graphite, high nickel with graphite, and high nickel with silicon-carbon. As the voltage/nickel content of power 12V23A battery increases, the challenges brought to the electrolyte are also increasing.
The solution strategy for general electrolytes is to choose core additives. The negative electrode film-forming additives are usually VC and EFC, and the positive electrode is sulfur-containing additives PS, RPS, etc., but combining these additives together is not enough to meet the performance requirements of high-energy power 12V23A battery.
To this end, Xinzhoubang has developed a new negative electrode film-forming additive LDY269, and new positive electrode film-forming additives LDY196, LDY2258 and LDY2294. Combining additives together can solve the problems faced by high energy density. At the meeting, Xiongde Special Chart Data compared the differences between the company's new additives and conventional additives in detail.
In NMC532/AG soft-pack 12V23A battery, LDY269 replacing VC can reduce DCIR and improve high-temperature cycle and high-temperature storage performance; in HV-NMC/AG, LDY196 improves the battery's high-temperature cycle performance better than PS and RPS; in HV-NMC/AG, the LDY196 formula improves the battery's high-temperature cycle and high-temperature storage performance better than the PS formula.
Xiong Dejun also gave an example: "Our LDY196 formula is roughly 240 mAh per gram in the customer's NCA/Sio-C system. In a high temperature environment, the 60-day and 7-day storage retention and recovery rates are both above 90%. When the LDY196 formula is used in 811 cylindrical 12V23A battery with silicon-carbon (Si-C), the effect is also very good."
"Although the LDY196 formula has received good feedback in the field of high-energy-density power 12V23A battery, our customers still hope that the initial impedance of our products can be reduced. Therefore, in order to meet customer needs, we started from the perspective of molecular structure and developed a more The new low-impedance film-forming additives are LDY2258 and LDY2294.
Comparing the single additives on NCA/Sio-C, we can see that the initial impedance of LDY2258 and LDY2294 is lower than that of LDY196 at the same content, and the cycle performance is roughly the same. The 60-degree storage capacity retention rate and recovery rate are also slightly improved by the new film-forming additives.
"So the formula of LDY2258 and LDY196 is used in high-nickel silicon-carbon 12V23A battery. At the same content, it can be seen that the initial impedance of the new additive LDY2258 is lower than that of LDY196. "Xiong Dejun said that the high-temperature storage is roughly equivalent, and the cyclicity is roughly equivalent, which has met expectations.
Let's look at another positive electrode film LDY2294. The content of LDY2294 is double that of LDY196, but it can be seen that the impedance in low-temperature environments is still lower than it. The high-temperature cycles of the two are roughly equivalent, which has also met expectations. "We made a comparison between LDY2294 and LDY196 in NMC811/Sio-C. The content of LDY2294 is twice that of LDY196, and the cycles are roughly equivalent." Xiong Dejun said.
Overall, Xinzhoubang has made great progress in the development of high-energy-density power battery electrolytes. Xinzhoubang's electrolyte formula containing LDY196 has received good feedback from high-end customers in the HV-NMC/AG and NMC811 (NCA) silicon-carbon cylindrical battery systems.
