How do Chinese companies respond to the new progress in Japan's button cell battery cr1620 research?
Recently, researchers from Tokyo Institute of Technology and other institutions in Japan have developed an button cell battery cr1620 that can be charged and discharged at ultra-high speed, taking a big step towards the practical application of all-solid-state batteries.
All-solid-state lithium batteries are a new type of battery that uses solid electrodes and solid electrolytes. Its high density, high safety, high output power and other performances are more advantageous than traditional liquid batteries. It has broad application prospects in the field of new energy vehicles and is expected to replace the current lithium-ion battery. The next generation of batteries.
Although many countries around the world are competing to develop all-solid-state batteries, their practical application faces a major problem: there is a high resistance on the interface where the high-voltage electrode and the solid electrolyte contact, which affects the battery performance. So far, there is no clear solution. The research results have been published in the American Chemical Society Journal Applied Materials and Interfaces.
In fact, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization of Japan announced that it will jointly develop solid-state batteries with 23 automobile, battery and material companies such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Panasonic, and plans to fully master the relevant technologies of solid-state batteries by 2022. In the field of lithium batteries, Japanese companies have been overtaken by Chinese companies. This new project will promote research and development with all the strength of Japan, striving to regain its hegemony in the battery industry.
At present, the mainstream international power battery companies are mainly lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium batteries, both of which contain electrolyte components. The theoretical energy density of lithium iron phosphate is about 170Wh/kg, and the theoretical energy density of ternary lithium batteries is 300-350Wh/kg. The energy density of the two is relatively small, which brings consumers serious mileage anxiety. At the same time, there are also safety issues such as low thermal decomposition temperature and easy combustion and explosion.
In the situation where Chinese, Japanese and Korean companies dominate the power battery market, it is difficult for other regions to overtake in the current technical route. Therefore, some European and American companies have begun to shift their goals and deploy a new generation of battery technology (solid-state batteries and hydrogen fuel cells), hoping to dominate the next round of competition.
Not long ago, Volkswagen Group announced plans to independently produce solid-state batteries in Europe to reduce its long-term dependence on Asian battery manufacturers in this field. Recently, after Volkswagen Group released its second-quarter results, its CEO Herbert Diess said that the company is considering producing its own solid-state batteries and plans to start mass production between 2024 and 2025.
Compared with many companies in Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, China and other countries that are actively planning and developing solid-state batteries, Chinese companies are relatively late, mainly supported by scientific research institutions or colleges, but some companies are also actively promoting the industrialization of solid-state batteries.
It is understood that Ganfeng Lithium Industry stated as early as March 2018 that it was conducting extensive testing on solid-state batteries and planned to build the first generation of solid-state lithium battery production lines in December 2018; completed 300 million yuan of solid-state lithium battery sales in December 2019, and promoted the maturity of the second-generation solid-state lithium battery technology, and realized the feasibility study of the third-generation solid-state lithium battery.
Jiawei Co., Ltd. held the world's first "Solid-State Lithium Battery and Fast-Charging Lithium Battery Product Launch Conference" in Shanghai in November 2016, and emphasized that the company will make every effort to accelerate the integration of solid-state lithium batteries and fast-charging lithium batteries in the future. In April 2018, Jiawei Longneng, a subsidiary of Jiawei Holdings, officially started trial operation of its solid-state energy storage technology company.
Chen Qingtai, chairman of the China Electric Vehicle Hundred People's Association, pointed out: "The global competition in power batteries is becoming increasingly fierce. Although European and American companies have lost their position in this round of competition, they are already making plans for the next stage of competition and are potential strong competitors. From the perspective of the next step of development, we should pay attention to the development of solid batteries."
Relying on policy dividends and subsidy advantages, China has defeated Japan and become the country with the largest power battery shipments in the world. The rapid rise of the "unicorn" CATL has also pulled Japan's Panasonic Electric off the throne of sales champion. However, temporary leadership does not represent the future. my country's power battery industry is severely polarized, the reshuffle is accelerating, and there are still many uncertainties in the development of the industry. At this time, Japanese companies are quietly starting to fight back, focusing on the layout of the next generation of power batteries, and striving to regain the hegemony of the battery industry. The technical layout of solid-state batteries by leading domestic power battery companies cannot be left behind.
Although there are many power battery companies in China, the two-tier differentiation is very serious, and there are chaos such as large investment bubbles, money-making and concept-making. There are relatively few companies that are truly devoted to cutting-edge technology. If they only stay in the competition of production capacity, they are likely to be surpassed by Japan, South Korea and later European and American countries in the near future.
